The key to designing an excellent athletic facility is to understand the needs of the user community. We work collaboratively with administration, athletic staff and the community agencies to determine the type of facility that is the best fit for the client and users.
DRA has designed many athletic facilities serving community groups, school-based users, and for club and team use. In the town of Belchertown, this meant a raised indoor walking track that allows the community's senior population to use the facility during the day for exercise without interrupting instructional classes. In the Tantasqua Regional High School this meant the development of an athletic wing comprised of a natatorium, field house, dance studio, fitness room and attendant support spaces. This wing can be sealed off to form a separate facility for weekend and evening events. In each of these cases the client's budget was maximized to offer the best athletic venue opportunities for the whole community.
Our facilities include natatoriums, field houses, ice rink facilities, weight rooms, fitness centers, dance/aerobic studios, climbing walls, administration suites, gymnasiums, and locker rooms. Many are used around the clock, as such; security issues are taken into consideration during design to ensure the safety of users, staff, and the entire facility.
