Positioning the building on the site of an existing school (which was to remain operational until the new school was completed) provided a significant challenge to the design team. The final solution addresses educational program and space needs, teachers' requirements elicited from an in-depth survey, and the voiced concerns of abutting neighbors. The new building was sited in order to maximize setbacks from the residential edges, capture prevailing winds and optimize showcase views of the school. Light-filled corridors accentuate their curved shape and the scale of elements was designed to compliment that of the residential neighbors.
