East Granby Public Library East Granby, CT
At only 3,850 SF and with no handicapped access, the initial study found that the existing library could no longer meet the needs of the community. After investigating further options, including re-use of an existing town building, the decision was made to build a new library in the town government complex (public safety, ambulance, town hall). The new one story brick library is scaled to fit with the surrounding buildings. Exterior features include dormers (filtering natural light to the circulation desk), entrance portico, cupola and an outdoor terrace. A large meeting room is adjacent to the main entrance and restrooms and can be accessed when the library is closed. The new facility with expansive children?s room, quiet reading areas and local history room has seen increased patronage.
