Woodbridge Public Library
Woodbridge, CT

The curvilinear architecture of the building unifies both the existing and new construction. We conducted a facility assessment and investigation of several sites.  The consensus was to maintain the town green location.   A majority of the existing library was demolished, retaining only the historically significant portion, a 1,000 SF, single story brick building.  The location on the town green, allows the library to be seen from all four sides, an important issue during design. The front doors, are actually facing the parking lot, with a faux front entrance facing the main street.  The two-story library houses the adult functions on the main level, with the program room. Fifty percent of the upper level is the children?s room with audio visual materials and a coffee shop.  Technical services and administrative areas are also located on the upper level. The interiors of the library have entirely new furnishings and shelving. The success of the fund raising enabled the library to restore the historic portion of the library to its original state
