This particular period of learning provides some of the greatest flexibility and allows the exploration of the learning process. Students are at an important stage in their development and it is important to give them a physical environment that is safe, comfortable and catches their imagination. The space must provide teachers with the support they need to approach learning in many different ways. Our most recent middle schools have used various incarnations of the cluster space model, allowing teachers to team teach, expand learning beyond the classroom and focus on a project based model of learning. Two of our most recent middle school openings are in Boston, MA, where they are the first new school buildings in 20 years.
