Henry Lord Middle School Fall River, MA
The new school's geometric plan addresses a tight, 18-acre site containing wetlands. The facility accommodates 750 students grades 6-8. The two-story building houses four computer labs, 24 classrooms, six science labs and specialty spaces for art, music, home economics, woodworking and printing shops. There are also several bilingual and special needs classrooms. The 375-seat auditorium and gymnasium make up one wing with instructional spaces at the opposite end of the school. The main design features include a two-story high atrium-like cafeteria, a gallery for artwork, and second floor greenhouse overlooking a courtyard. The library media center with sunken amphitheatre contains the school's computer network that connects to off-site emergency management as well as to city hall archives.
