Boston Municipal Court Study
Boston, MA

DRA was hired to examine and develop options for a permanent home for the Boston Municipal Court and the Suffolk County Superior Court.

Several sites were explored as possible locations for the new court facility.  The sites examined included the existing site at Pemberton Square, a state-owned parcel on Nashua Street, and the federally owned Post Office and Courthouse at Post Office Square. Stacking and blocking diagrams and test layouts were prepared for these sites demonstrating the best approach for dealing with the design at each location. Cost and implementation plans and schedules were prepared  providing DCAM with a method for comparing and evaluating the alternatives.

It was determined that the Pemberton Square high-rise courthouse is of insufficient size to accommodate both court departments. The Boston Municipal Court will be permanently relocated to the Brooke Courthouse.
