Ann T. Dunphy School
Williamsburg, MA

"...As I walked into the school the other day, I thought how lovely our building is, and how lucky I am to work in it."

Stacey Jenkins

The project began with a feasibility study to evaluate various options of renovation, addition and new construction to either the Dunphy Elementary School or James Elementary Schools.  The goal is to combine its elementary school curriculum under one roof and to continue to meet the educational requirements of the district.  A preferred option emerged to renovate and add onto the Dunphy School, moving grades PK-2, currently housed at the James School to the Dunphy School and to enhance the common spaces to serve the town’s complete PK-6 elementary school student body.

The project objectives included complete upgrades to the HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection and fire alarm systems. New gas, electrical and water service will be run to the building to serve increased demand on those utilities within the renovated building. The project also includes full window replacement for increased thermal performance and hazardous material abatement throughout the facility. Incidental to this work is full accessibility compliance, seismic upgrades and new finishes throughout. The new addition houses new classrooms and a new cafeteria “commons” area that, in addition to as fulfilling the student dining requirements for the expanded enrollment, serves as a multi-purpose area as well.
