Saxton B. Little Public Library
Columbia, CT

Located on the north side of the town green the 5000 SF library is overcrowded and in great need of expansion.  DRA performed conceptual and schematic design for an expanded library of approximately 18,000 SF.  The initial work involves a study of the 5 acre site to improve the town green and parking for the various town buildings. Both single and two story approaches were explored. Exploration of high performance strategies with a minimum goal of LEED silver was integrated into the design process.

The sentiment of the local residents was that the proposed expansion was too large.  We reworked and simplified the plans to reduce the floor area by over 3000 SF.
